Life in Cocorná

The pueblo that fixes your nervous system

Eastern Antioquia. Waterfalls, a river you can hear from the ridge, mountain air that never needs air-conditioning.

Slow, green, quiet

Cocorná is a working mountain pueblo — not a tourist strip. Days are warm, nights are cool, and the soundtrack is the river and the birds. The Río Cocorná and its waterfalls are the local swimming holes; the hills around are walking country.

It is deliberately not Medellín: the city's noise, pace and party reputation stay 2 hours away — exactly where they belong.

90 minutes from everything you actually need

Medellín's international airport and its hospitals — among the best on the continent — are about 2 hours by road. Fly family in, handle FMP appointments, stock up at the big-city stores, and be back on the terrace for sunset.

Day trips: Guatapé and its lake are the classic outing — the painted pueblo and El Peñól rock are world-famous for a reason.

Practical life

  • Climate: spring-like mountain weather year-round; pack a fleece for the evenings, never a snow shovel.
  • Language: it's Colombia — Spanish helps, and the house is the easiest immersion course you'll ever take. You'll have brothers to translate while you learn.
  • Connectivity: the house runs on modern internet — good enough for video calls with the grandkids and the VA.
  • Getting here: fly into Medellín (MDE), and we arrange the pickup — the drive in through the mountains is the welcome mat.
  • Getting around: the bus pickup is a 5-minute walk from the gate — buses run to the pueblo and on to Medellín, so you don't need a car here.
